PFH Legal provides wills, trusts, and estate planning services to clients in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Patrick F. Hess, Esq.
Estate Planning Attorney · Licensed in RI & MA
I’m an attorney located in Rhode Island serving clients in the areas of wills, trusts, and estate planning. For the past twenty years, I’ve worked as a legal and business counselor, advising clients in a variety of areas, including estate planning, contracts, business start-up issues, intellectual property, real estate financing, regulatory matters, and more.
My practice at PFH Legal is devoted solely to the needs of families and individuals looking to build complete estate plans to protect their assets, care for their loved ones, and ensure the appropriate structures are in place in the event they become incapacitated. I focus on making the process as straightforward as possible, offering virtual appointments, efficient document preparation, and plain language explanations of the legal instruments included in your estate plan.
Every plan is unique, so I work with each client on a personal level to make sure their specific needs and goals are addressed through a combination of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare proxies, and ongoing support.
My professional experience includes working as VP and in-house counsel for a family-owned Rhode Island business, representing a city redevelopment agency on numerous real estate projects, working as an associate for a civil litigation practice and, before starting my legal and business career, interning with the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office and Denver City Attorney’s Office.
I am licensed to practice in Rhode Island (since 2006) and Massachusetts (since 2013) and am a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association (Probate and Trust Committee), American Bar Association (Real Property, Trust & Estate Law and Business Law Sections) and Boston Bar Association (Trusts and Estates Section).
I received my BA in History from the University of Vermont and earned my JD in 2006 from the University of Denver College of Law, where I was a member of the Denver Journal of International Law and Policy and studied abroad at Trinity College of Law in Dublin, Ireland.
I currently live in Barrington, Rhode Island, with my wife, daughter, and our very energetic Australian Labradoodle, Daisy. When I’m not working, I enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors — on the water, in the mountains, or going on treks and adventures with my family.
